PES is a proprietary machine embroidery format used by Brother and Babylock embroidery machines. It stores stitch patterns, color sequences, and machine commands that direct the embroidery machine needle to create designs on fabric.

DST — Tajima Embroidery Format
DST is the most widely supported machine embroidery format, created by Tajima and readable by nearly every commercial embroidery machine. It stores stitch coordinates and machine commands but carries no colour information, which is why a DST file has to be paired with a colour sequence when it is stitched out.
