DST — Tajima Embroidery Format
DST is the most widely supported machine embroidery format, created by Tajima and readable by nearly every commercial embroidery machine. It stores stitch coordinates and machine commands but carries no colour information, which is why a DST file has to be paired with a colour sequence when it is stitched out.

TAR — Tape Archive
TAR (Tape ARchive) is a Unix/Linux file bundling format that combines multiple files and directories into a single file without compression. Originally designed for tape backup storage, it remains the foundation of Linux software distribution and is almost always used with an additional compression layer such as gzip (.tar.gz) or bz2 (.tar.bz2).
